Aoi Sakuraba - Bluer than Indigo
Character: Aoi Sakuraba
From Ai Yori Aoshi ["Bluer Than Indigo"] manga & anime
Kaoru Hanabishi, a college student who lives alone, met a beautiful lost girl at a train station. He volunteered to show her to the address she was looking for, which was in his neighborhood but turned out to be an empty lot. Not knowing what to do next, he invited her to his apartment. There she saw a photo with two children whom Kaoru identified as himself and Aoi Sakuraba, his childhood friend. It turned out that the girl in front of him was Aoi Sakuraba herself, his betrothed fiancée who came all the way to Tokyo to marry him.
Aoi is generally very shy and demure. Also, she's usually portrayed wearing a kimono; specifically, an indigo one.
This cosplay just happened out of the blue. I bought the yukata on a whim (i <3 fish), I can't seem to remember why [maybe for Christmas]. I wore it around the house, and a few times to local Japanese Cherry Blossom Festivals, never thinking I looked like any character. But, one day I cut my hair short.. and there you go.
Pictures were taken at the local Japanese Tea Garden. Photography by James Modrall. Spring 2012
I won a novelty prize for this cosplay [4th place]. I can't argue with gift cards.
