Blue Fairy - Pinocchio
The Blue Fairy is a character in Disney's 1940 film Pinocchio. She is a magical being who, fulfilling Gepetto's wish, transforms Pinocchio into a living creature, and later into a real boy. In a story meeting in Jan. 1939, Walt Disney specified that the Blue Fairy was to 'give the appearance of loveliness... (but not look like) a glamour girl'.
I know I took creative license with this one, my costume doesn't look much like the Disney interpretation; but to simplify the whole thing, the Blue Fairy is a blond woman in a blue gown, with fairy wings. So, close enough...
I made this particular dress back in 2009 as part of a fairy princess themed group, and it has been collecting dust for the last 4 years. [I made it about the same time as my Sorceress dress] This costume has fairy wings, a 2 layer skirt with petticoat, corset, ribbons, wig, and hair flowers. I made the dress myself from scratch [no pattern, just love], and the rinky-dink fairy wings were a left over Halloween prop [I would've liked to make some more impressive ones, but couldn't find the time].
I love the color of this dress. I'm a big fan of whimsical things. The world needs more humorous nonsense.
