Columbia - The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Columbia [A groupie of the transvestite Dr. Frank N. Furter]
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 British-American musical comedy horror film. The production is a humorous tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the late 1940s through early 1970s. Rocky Horror is the first film from a major Hollywood studio to be in the midnight movie market. The motion picture has a large international cult following and is one of the most well-known and financially successful midnight movies of all time.
I wore this costume to the local show, and I brought Paul because he had never been before. It was super fun, he wore a tux.. I looked like a Chinese hooker, and he looked like a million bucks [<<- story of my life]. I wanted to make this because Rocky Horror was one of the first movies I can specifically recall my mom telling me was "full of weirdos", so I eagerly enjoyed it in secret for over a decade [and I went to my first live show in 2008]. I've been meaning to do a costume from this movie for about 15years [& I was finally motivated to make it when I heard the show was coming to town].
I always liked Columbia. I've been doing the pajama [mickey mouse ear] version of her costume for years.
The outfit consists of: a sparkly gold tailed coat with matching top hat, sparkly tube top, striped shorts, sparkly bow-tie, and fishnets. The fabric was a pain-in-the-ass to sew, it's thin and has lots of scratchy bits at the seams. I made the coat, bow-tie, and top from scratch, and made alterations some preexisting shorts and hat. Nuthin' says "classy" like a tailed coat and top hat.
I seem to really enjoy circus-esque costumes. I <3 color! I still get excited about my can-can dress.
Awesome pix! I know fishnet stockings have a bad rep for being slutty, but damn..there's a reason the sluts wear them. They make your legs look awesome. Photos by Paul Stout 2013.
Also worn to FreakyDeeky 2013. I won the costume contest. Photos by Catbutt
