Jedi - Star Wars
Jedi from Star Wars . Everyone loves Star Wars. I wanted to make this costume just after Episode 3 came out in 2005, but I didn't get around to it for years. I was finally inspired by the Star Wars Celebration Convention in LA in May 2007. That year I lived 3 blocks away from the convention center, and there were storm troopers EVERYWHERE. I got so excited about it.
Everyone had star wars fever, there was a bunch of memorabilia and anniversary merch around in the following years. The cartoon Clone Wars came out, and then the video games.
Also see my Slave Leia costume.
I think I got my light saber at the corner pharmacy in 2009 (and I'm aware it's the wrong color for a Jedi, but whatev). [By the way, light sabers are ALWAYS in stores, and they're getting better/cooler, I think they came out with a cartoon series for Star Wars so the sabers are getting more cartoon-y.]
I wore this costume a bunch around Halloween 2009-2010. It's a 3 layer robe. The bottom layer is white and sleeveless, so just the collar shows. I'm aware that it isn't the best Jedi robe, but it gets the job done. I tried to do my eye make up in Japanese kabuki style, but it doesn't look very dramatic in these pictures. [and the lips like a geisha] In person, it looks very theatrical.
This is an example of my 1-day rush construction in action. I would die of embarrassment if I wore this to a convention.
Photos were taken in my living room. Photography by James Modrall.
