Maleficent - Sleeping Beauty
Maleficent is a fictional character and the main antagonist in Walt Disney's 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. She is the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil" who, after not being invited to a royal christening, curses the infant Princess Aurora to "prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die" before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday. The character is Disney's adaptation of the wicked fairy godmother from the original French fairy tale.
She wears all black, and has green skin.
I wanted to make this because there have been a slew of live action remakes of Disney stories in resent years, and the live action movie of Maleficent, staring Angelina Jolie, comes out in a few months, so this seemed like a perfect time to make the costume.
I get a lot of inquires about the hat. So, I posted a work-in-process picture to the workshop page. The horns are paper cups, wire, and foil. I made the robes from scratch. They were surprisingly easy since it didn't have to be fitted. The collar gave me the most trouble, I ended up making mine out of craftfoam and covered it in fabric.
Costume consists of: black robes with purple color accents, horned hat, staff, green makeup.
Pictures were taken at Fanime2014. Photos by Paul Stout, Toshiyasu Morita, and others.
