The Conjuring 2 - Valak The Demon Nun
My night job in Theatre lead me to make several Nun outfits for the Sound of Music. So at some point, it crossed my mind to cosplay as a Nun.
This isn’t the first time that the theatre-life has given me cosplay ideas. It truly happens every single show. So I looked up some Nun related movies , and found The Conjuring, and the new spin-off The Nun. Both are horror monster movies.
Conveniently, I already had a graduation robe, so I whipped out the rest of the costume with expert timing. I made the hood, collar, veil, and tabard, and then I had to wait until the Halloween season rolls around. Scary costumes are really seasonally specific, since people are uncomfortable with monsters the rest of the year.
I guess I’m just really into Halloween this year, because this is the 5th Halloween costume I’ve made myself in the last 8 months, and I’ve had to stockpile them all until October. I started seeing Halloween Stores popping up in late August, and got really excited, and started decorating the house.
I like doing scary costumes from time to time, because people treat you differently when you wear them. Almost like they’re happy to see you, but they’re also a little bit scared of you. Not surprisingly, I didn't make very many friends wearing this.
The veil and tabard are big rectangles, and the collar is basically a small circle skirt. Nothing too difficult to make. Loose fitting and comfortable. The makeup is mostly white facepaint with black eyes and lips. I watched a makeup tutorial on youtube, and considered getting a fake prosthetic nose, but didn't. The movie monster has a very long pointed nose.
I also looked for ways to make my teeth look scary, and I ended up making my own false teeth with thermoplastic beads; which was very easy to do, And looked spectacularly frightening.
