Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands is a 1990 American romantic fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp. The film shows the story of an artificial man named Edward, an unfinished creation, who has scissors for hands. Edward is taken in by a suburban family and falls in love with their teenage daughter Kim. The main themes deal with self-discovery and isolation.
I wanted to make this because it's one of my favorite movies. I've always been a big fan of Burton's work, there's a flavor of oddity in everything he does that makes me remember how unusual "normal" things actually are. The imagery in this movie is so imaginative, it shows suburbia as being a very weird place.
Costume consists of: a black body suit, corset, a strap vest, strap belt, collar, boots, scissor gloves, and a heavily styled wig. I made all the buckles myself out of Worbla, and the scissorhands are made out of cardboard, craftfoam, and tape.
The makeup was fun; the scars are lines of liquid latex that I highlighted with makeup. I really layered it on thick because I know that when wearing all black clothing the photos would need heavy flash to get the details. I think this is some of my best work because it took my friends a while to recognize me.
It was compliments on this costume that made me finally get a cosplay facebook fan page [people have been telling me to get one for years].
