Other Things I've MadeA photo album for various other homemade dresses I've made. Not exactly costume.
I should start a gallery for the things I make only because the fabric was free. Which is the opposite problem than I usually have; instead of “how can I make the most of a half yard scrap?”, it’s “how can I waste 4 yards?” I’ve run out of craft space, and now am desperately trying to make something useful out of the piles of fabric that I’ve been keeping for no good reason. My fabric collection has recently become unreasonable, and I know that If I don’t use this fabric now, I never will. I’ll die in a fabric avalanche. So, big dresses for everything; full skirts, long sleeves, floor length, lined, 6inch hems. Once I clear the pile, I’m going to make a real effort to not to storage any more fabric. [edit: turns out the covid-19 shutdown gave me the opportunity to use a lot of the fabric] Candy Corn Dress. This is yet another of my homemade dresses. This feels like my 10th one, but it’s probably my 12th. I made it myself, from scratch, and I even had the good sense to put a pocket in it. Knee length pleated skirt, lined bodice. V-neck. the bodice has a little peplum on the bum. very similar to the 1880s dresses I did. Orange waistband and hem. Yellow ribbon topstitched on. The fabric is more greyish black. The bodice is lined. Zipper down the back. Halloween this year is on a Thursday, so hopefully that means I get a full weekend plus several weekdays of Halloween festivities. I’m also working at the high school that week, so hopefully the kids will appreciate my holiday spirt. I like subtle Halloween fabric. Also see my tiny skull polka dot dress from last year. Batmobile dress. Homemade dress, drafted it myself, made it from scratch. Grey and black fabric, blue-print style batmobile print fabric, 1.5 yards. The dress has a cute vintage feel to it. I don’t usually do spread/pointed collars. My faux collar is just tacked on top of the finished edge of the dress neckline, it was sort of an afterthought, and not functional. I also pulled the shoulders out a bit to give it a tiny little sleeve. The skirt is pleated. The bodice is lined. The bodice has darts, but I didn’t sew them closed. It’s a loose fitting tailored dress. Zipper down the back. I wore it with a .. hair, gloves,. I love batman. I’ve done several batman characters. Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Joker, Batgirl, ect. Justice League Skirt: I made a skirt out of a child bed sheet. It’s justice league themed. It’s even got a pocket. My justice league skirt made from children’s bed sheet. I made it from scratch. I had enough fabric to make a whole mini dress, [which is what I usually do] but decided to do a long skirt instead. Half circle skirt. It even has a pocket. I also made a scarf to wear with it. Not really a character, but still cute. I have a lot of other comic book style dresses. Also see Doctor Who, and Marvel. Reminds me of vintage Batgirl costume I did a few years ago. Smoker jacket. I drafted it myself to feel like a classy lounge gent. it has pockets in the side seams. the gecko dress. I've had this fabric for 10 years. and now i have a cute little dress. Wrap style front. Green dress, wrap style. i love how vibrant it is. pink/teal flamingo dress. weird mini summer dress, hollow back. pleated skirt. the front has a basket weave detail. zipper down the back. i love how vibrant it is. i tried to use every scrap of the flamingo fabric. My lobster dress. I found some funny fabric with lobsters printed on it, and I had to circle back to my ‘what can I do with this scrap of fabric‘ project. Usually a half yard can do 1 panel on a dress, or a small top, or a pencil skirt. And a whole yard can do a tiny dress, or a skirt, or a top. I opted to do Half a dress, and have the back be a diff fabric. I only had 1 yard of this fabric. Which is enough to make a mini strapless dress, or just a top or just a skirt. So I got creative and did the front half of a dress. I think Crabs and Lobsters are the creepiest looking things on the planet, [like the face grabbers in the movie Alien], which gave way to a long standing personal joke ending with me owning a lot of lobster related home goods. I made this dress from scratch. Princess seams. Fuchsia on the back. Slightly longer skirt length on the back. Zipper on the center back. I even did some little pleats in the back princess seams for added skirt fullness. It fits pretty well. Very comfortable fit. I added some side ties to synch the waist. And I wore it with some rubber novelty crab claws which I was saving for Dr. Zoidburg from Futurama, and I made a weird little hat. I think I could get away with saying I was Sebastian the Crab, or just wear this to a Lobster Fest type event.. which reminds me of the Bob’s Burgers episode. Red Green flower dress, Neon Green Snakeskin, SO MANY HOME MADE DRESSES. OMG I"M GOING TO STOP NOW. polka dot, fishy, flowers, with apron, metallic, cartooned, lightup.
