How i made :: Princess Leia - slave bikini
I have to state the obvious:
Star Wars is awesome, and you CAN just buy a perfect ready-made costume for a couple hundred dollars.
I made mine out of thermoplastic sheet [worbla]. I could have made it out of thick craft foam for a more flexible fit [the armor props for my Thor were all foam, it's light and comfortable], but I was hoping the Worbla would allow for more detail.
The belt and cuffs are definitely not as detailed as anything I could have bought, but I DID make it myself from scratch for less than 50$, and it looks pretty damn good. So, I'm happy. Also, at the very bottom of the page are pictures of the making of the Ewok and R2-D2.
>>Below are some links to various reference pictures I used to make my pattern.

Step 5.
Painting is done. I used 3 colors of gold/copper colored paint to add depth, and highlight the details. Attach fabric components. Glue. Elastic. Boots. Straps. Fabric skirt. I Worbla-ed in safety pins in the inside of the belt to hold up the fabric skirt. Step 6. Fabric, Cord, and Elastic. Glue it all together, stitch it down, & hope that it all holds together. |
Building :: Ewok & r2-D2
The short version is :: The Ewok is a: plastic tube & wire frame, stuffed with newspaper, and covered with expandable foam. The face and fingers are made from Worbla. The eyes are ping-pong balls, and the teeth are Friendly Plastic. The droid R2-D2 is a wire cylinder with a bowl head, some wood and painted cardboard, and the whole thing sits on a wheeled triangular platform. Made with love.
