Renaissance Pirate
Simple Renaissance fashion. nothing specific.
This outfit is actually one of the first ones I made ~12 years ago (8th or 9th grade, too long ago to recall). It has been re-constructed once or twice since then, as I got better at details.
Renaissance Faires were my first costume-love. This was before I knew about cosplay and conventions. I tried my hand at several different styles of pirate and wench fashion back then. Thinking that the Faire was the only place to wear a costume off-season, I mostly wore them to school, because my parents didn’t allow me to go places.
This was really the start of my silly-alternative-fashion phase, after that I got into a hipster-emo-grunge thing, followed by a causal suit phase. Anyway…
The costume is a leather vest, with a plain cotton shirt (made by me). Then brown pants, boots, and hat. The shirt was the only thing I made from scratch. The vest was modified from a jacket. I wasn’t so great at sewing back then to do anything elaborate, but the design was good, so I stuck with it through the years. AND yes, it all still fits.
These particular pictures were taken at the local Renaissance Fantasy Faire, which is like a tiny twice a year faire right in downtown. The bigger one is an hour outside of the city, and only in the fall. It’s early April 2016, and it was raining off-and-on all day.
I also made the banner coat of arms tunic for my friend the Black Knight in about an hour, & I’m fairly proud of it.
