Leeloo - The Fifth Element
Character: Leeloo from the 1997 movie: The Fifth Element
In the twenty-third century, the universe is threatened by evil. The only hope for mankind is the Fifth Element, who comes to Earth every five thousand years to protect the humans. The spacecraft bringing The Fifth Element back to Earth is destroyed by the evil Mangalores. However, a team of scientists use the DNA of the remains of the Fifth Element to rebuild the perfect being called Leeloo.
I love this movie. It's fantastic and inspiring. I also love metallic legging, they make my ass look awesome [but that's just a plus+] This costume is really popular this year, but very few people do the suspenders justice [they're made of silicone rubber]. You have to make a mold [out of insulation foam or something], then pour the liquid silicone into it. I would have made a tutorial, but my computer crashed and I lost all the in-process pictures. So I'll just tell you about it. I made 2 of them, but the first one turned out very red, instead of orange, so I tried again. The second pair still turned out a little darker than I would've liked... but c'est la vie. I carved a mold out of a sheet of insulation foam and used little pieces of PVC pipe for the holes, and poured the silicone into it. I think Jia*Jem has a similar enough tutorial you can follow if you want to make a pair; mine was a little different, but you get the idea.
I made this costume in winter 2011, but didn't wear out until summer 2012. I guess I was procrastinating photographing it because I was shy about going into the city wearing it. Costume consists of: gold leggings with 1/4" black elastic stitched on top, white cropped shirt, black boots, wig, & orange silicone suspenders. I'm aware that the hair isn't perfect. I ordered a second wig to style/cut/color, but it never arrived, so I complained, and things got complicated.. needless to say, I never got that second wig.
