Strawberry Shortcake
Strawberry Shortcake is a children's character; she's a chef and owner of the Berry Bitty Café. She has red hair, wears a pink dress with striped leggings, red shoes, and a strawberry hat. She is confident, considerate, optimistic, thoughtful, resourceful, enthusiastic and full of ideas. She originally came out in 1979 as a rag-doll and greeting card cartoon. There have since been some DVD movies, as well as a toyline made by Hasbro.
She's a really well known American character.
I wanted to make this because I was on a "use-up this spare fabric" binge. So I absentmindedly make a polka-dot dress. See workshop for a WIP. About 3/4ths of the way through sewing, I asked my housemate who they thought it looked like. Strawberry Shortcake came to mind, as well as Princess Bubblegum, and Pinkie Pie. Anything pink. So, you guessed it. I also did a Princess Bubblegum costume.
It's made of polka-dot fabric, I drafted the pattern myself. It's an easy comfortable dress. The hat is a big ridiculous thing, it's stuffed with plastic bags to make it poofy. The hardest part was the gathers at the hem. I don't know why I do this to myself. After making the Maid costume, I thought I had perfected the art of using a serger machine to ruffle fabric.
Costume consists of: Pink polka-dot dress, striped socks, hat, wig.
Pictures were taken at KrakenCon 2016, and SacAnime 2017.
