Elphaba aka The Wicked Witch
Elphaba aka The Wicked Witch
She is a fictional character in Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire, as well as in the Broadway and West End adaptations, Wicked. In the original book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, the Wicked Witch is unnamed and little is explained about her life. Elphaba is modeled after the Witch in the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz: [Green-skinned, clad entirely in black, and wearing a tall peaked hat]. Also, see my Dorothy costume.
After figuring out the most effective way to use face paint for my Orion Star Trek costume, this seemed like the next logical step. I had the green paint, so why not?
The pointy hat has been a normal Halloween prop around my house for years. The coat is awesome. I made it totally from scratch when I was taking a sewing/pattern drafting class, it's made from ultra-suede fabric [faux leather] it feels fantastic. Other features of the coat are a graduated hem line, and Florence coin buttons.
Costume consists of: pointy witch hat [store bought and very crappy], black coat, tall boots [same ones I wore for Catwoman and Vivian], green face paint, broom [a very normal house broom, I probably could have found a more appropriate one], + a black cat.
