historical Edwardian Walking Skirt
I’ve been really into historical styles these past few years.
See my : Renaissance Lady, Regency Blue, 1840s Bathing Suit, Edwardian Black, Victorian Lady, Steampunk Green, ect.
This particular outfit is a casual Edwardian, early 1900s. A simple blouse and a walking skirt, worn with a large fancy hat.
If you’re having trouble with the historical fashion timeline.
In American, The Victorian Era 1837 to 1901, was the time of: Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, The Civil War, Union and Confederacy, California Gold Rush 1849, Civil Rights Act of 1866, Thomas Edison, Susan B Anthony, American Wild West. Ect. Vincent van Gogh lived 1853-1890, Post Impressionism. People in that time tried to maintain an outwardly proper social etiquette and strict gender divides. Top hats, bell shaped or bustled silhouettes, long modest hems, simple hair [parted in the middle and worn up in a bun]. The crinoline [hoop skirt] was invented in 1850s to hold up the massive dresses women were wearing at the time.
After that was The Edwardian Era, 1901 to 1910, the reign of King Edward VII; with the fashion period firmly ending at WW1. Which looked like the first season of Downton Abbey. Also Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, and the Titanic which sunk in 1912. The S-curve silhouette, slimmer dresses, pigeon chest blouses, large decorative hats. President Theodore Roosevelt, and President Howard Taft.
La Belle Époque was a period of Western history. It is conventionally dated from the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 to the outbreak of World War I in 1914.
I made the walking skirt, it's a simple circular 3/4 shape, not gored. I made it out of demin. I also made the hat. This dress would have been worn with bloomers, petticoats, a corset, and a chemise.
I'm also wearing a large hair bun extension, and some historical jewelry accessories.
