historical Edwardian Black Dress
I’ve been really into historical styles these past few years.

If you’re having trouble with the historical fashion timeline. After the rebellions in Europe which killed most of the royals, fashion changed dramatically from the ornate Marie Antoinette style to a simpler Jane Austen style. The Regency Period was the last 25 years of the Georgian Era, when King George the 3rd was deemed unfit, and his son took over as Prince Regent, starting in 1811. The Regency fashion style is most famously known as being: the Jane Austen style. Women’s dresses had high empire waistlines and slim skirt silhouette. In 1820, that Regent Prince was crowned King George the 4th, and the Georgian Era ended in 1837, which was the start of the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria.
In American, The Victorian Era 1837 to 1901, was the time of: Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, The Civil War, Union and Confederacy, California Gold Rush 1849, Civil Rights Act of 1866, Thomas Edison, Susan B Anthony, American Wild West. Ect.
Vincent van Gogh lived 1853-1890, Post Impressionism. People in that time tried to maintain an outwardly proper social etiquette and strict gender divides. Top hats, bell shaped or bustled silhouettes, long modest hems, simple hair [parted in the middle and worn up in a bun]. The crinoline was invented in 1850s to hold up the massive dresses women were wearing at the time.
After that was The Edwardian Era, 1901 to 1910, the reign of King Edward VII; with the fashion period firmly ending at WW1. Which looked like the first season of Downton Abbey. Also Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, and the Titanic which sunk in 1912. The S-curve silhouette, slimmer dresses, pigeon chest blouses, large decorative hats. President Theodore Roosevelt, and President Howard Taft.
The Belle Époque was a period of Western history, conventionally dated from the end of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871 to the outbreak of World War I in 1914.
This dress is a historical Edwardian Dress. I did not make it myself, but judging by the stitching, I have reason to believe that it's actually 110 years old.
And it fits!
