Lady Riddler - Batman - DC
The Riddler (Dr. Edward Nigma) is a supervillain appearing in Batman comic books published by DC Comics. The Riddler is obsessed with riddles, puzzles and word games. He delights in forewarning both Batman and the police of his capers by sending them complex clues. With this self-conscious use of a gimmick, the Riddler's crimes are flamboyant and ostentatious. The character is depicted as wearing a mask with a green suit and bowler hat, or a green unitard with question mark prints. A black, green, or purple question mark serves as his visual motif.
I wanted to make this because I LOVE BATMAN. See my Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Joker, or Batgirl. I've actually had this costume done for over a year before ever wearing it. I originally made this for a male friend who asked to borrow it for a Halloween costume, but he didn't want to fully commission it. So I made and lent out the jacket, and made a skirt for myself with the spare fabric. I made most of it from scratch [the black shirt itself is the only thing I didn't]. The question marks were spray painted on using a stencil. See the workshop for a WIP of the jacket.
The most time consuming part was painting on the question marks. The design of the question marks are from the Batman movie where Jim Carry was the Riddler. I cut the fabric, then painted the marks on, then finished sewing the garments.
Made from scratch. Totally by me. Costume consists of: green jacket and skirt, cane, bowler hat, mask. It isn't the most flattering thing, the jacket is big on me. I cinched it down with a belt, but it's still all-kinds-of baggy. Baggy enough to pass as a boxy 80s jacket.
The Harley in the pictures is my roomie, she's wearing one of my costumes.
Pictures were taken at Big Wow Comicfest. Photos by Toshi, and others.
