Winter Wonderland / THe Ghost of Christmas Past
I originally thought it was a generic winter fairyland style dress, since my brain has decided to do a bunch of fantasy dresses this year.
The style of it is the same crowd as the White Witch from Narnia, or the White Queen from Alice in Wonderland. But it does remind me More of the Ghost of Christmas Past from A Christmas Carol, from the novel by Charles Dickens. The Ghost of Christmas past was the first of the three spirits that haunted the miser Ebenezer Scrooge in order to prompt him to repent.
A creature of Light. It shows Scrooge his past.
Seriously, if you like fantasy fashion, go see some of my other fantasy dresses. Purple fairy, Blue fairy, Autumn fairy, Steampunk Green, Steampunk Blue, metallic Alien.
I built on top of an existing dress.
The base dress was a lovely strapless sweetheart neckline wedding dress, with diagonal pleated tulle detail on the bodice, and little lacey applique bits on the skirt. It was given to me last summer after an unsuccessful bin sale, landing several boxes of unsold wedding dresses at the theatre bin sale, on their way to a thrift store. Lucky me. it is nearly perfect. After some minor alterations to make it more wearable [I added straps and hemmed it]. I rigged it with battery pockets and string lights.
The lights are loosely tacked down to the under skirt. And are hidden under the 3 layers of tulle mesh fabric overskirt. There are 5 separate strings of lights stitched into this dress skirt, and 1 more string in my hair. I do love some light up dresses. Add in a wig and accessories, and we're all set.
If you like light-up dresses, see my : Snow Maiden, or Shaymin. I wrote a whole page on lights. see my workshop.
I made the cape, it has a fur collar, it kept me warm. There are flowers in my hair, and a tiara, and little vintage fur hat.
A lot of young children thought I was a princess. A lot women just thought it was pretty. There were plenty of muggles doing creepy far away pix.
