Star Trek Alien Cardassian
The internet has millions of instructional videos, but I was unable to find a cosplay makeup tutorial video of the Star Trek aliens: the Cardassians.
Cardassian aliens are well-known for their reoccurring role on the show Deep Space 9, as the race that had formerly enslaved the Bajorians. Known throughout the Alpha Quadrant for being extremely ruthless, the Cardassians became one of the greatest enemies of the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire, when the Cardassian Union joined the Dominion in 2373.
My Cardassian Makeup.
In a similar method as the one I used to make my Klingon mask, I made this latex mask prosthetic on a foam head with liquid latex makeup, and theatrical makeup wax. I could’ve done this special effects makeup directly onto my face, but it saves time when I make the pieces beforehand. The latex takes time to dry, so if I had applied many layers of latex directly onto my face, it would have taken hours to do this makeup.
How I did it. I drew out the approximate shape onto tissue gauze, held it up onto my own face for sizing, and pinned it to a cling-wrapped foam head; then applied some latex, then the wax shapes, then another layer of gauze and latex. This particular brand of latex was WAY too watery, and it dripped everywhere. So the gauze helped to soak it up, and gives the mask a little structural stability so it won’t distort or tear apart. The cling-wrap allows for you to peel it right off the head without leaving residue, and once it’s off the foam head, you can cut off the extra bits.
I attached mine to my face with more latex, and then used shadow and face-paint on top of that. In addition to grey facepaint, I actually found some lavender purple-ish concealer that was the perfect color.
This makeup is one of the more detailed ones I’ve done.

Netflix has a lot of Star Trek on it, and for the past year or 2 I’ve been systematically watching it all. I started with Original Series, then onto Next Generation, then Deep Space 9, and then Voyager, Enterprise, and now the new show Discovery. and I also like The Orville.
See some of my other Star Trek costumes: Orion, Enterprise, Klingon, Vulcan.
I’ve been thinking about Cardassians for some time now. There weren’t many female main character Cardassians in Deep Space 9; I’m estimating 10 casual appearances in the whole show. But I enjoyed the character Gal Dukat, so I wanted to try and cosplay as one.
Their military forces wear a black armor uniform, and their female civilians wear natural-colored floor length dresses.
I modified this old prom dress to have the black sleeves and the black chest diamond shapes, I was hoping it would look a bit like their military outfits [which also has a diamond on the chest, and little armor sleeves].
The hardest part was not being able to really move my eyebrows. Something about wearing prosthetic masks is that you always feel like something is weighing your face down.
Costume consists of: a dress, socks, wigs, makeup, mask.
Pictures were taken a Fanime2018. Photos by BlizzardTerrak, Argun Tekant, Todd Jackson, and others.
