The Tardis : Doctor Who
The TARDIS [Time and Relative Dimension in Space] is a time machine and spacecraft in the popular British science fiction television program Doctor Who. A TARDIS is a product of the advanced technology of the Time Lords, an extraterrestrial civilization to which the program's central character, the Doctor, belongs. A properly maintained and piloted TARDIS can transport its occupants to any point in time and any place in the universe.
I wanted to make this because I love Doctor Who. I didn't think I would at the beginning, but I do now. I thought the first few episodes I saw were very Peter Pan. A magical man swoops in with his wonderland box and whisks away a young attractive girl for a series of daring surreal adventures. How romantic..
I realize this is a dress costume rendition of a phone booth, but stick with me. This whole thing is mostly an expression of love for the cheeky Doctor, and I dare say that I look rather fetching in it.
There's a WIP on the workshop page of the process. The front design is made mostly of ribbons. This was an easy dress for me. Majority of the (cutting/sewing) work was done in about 3 hrs, the finishing touches took another hour. It's made of a blue slightly stretchy woven fabric in a very simple dress design [I like the slightly stretchy wovens, because it's fit-forgiving and I don't have to sew in a zipper].
The most time-consuming part was painting the words "police public call box" on the belt. I printed out the words and marked out the tops-bottoms of the letters on the fabric, so that they were perfectly spaced.
Costume consists of: Blue dress with ribbon design, painted belt, hoop skirt, gloves, tiny hat.
Pictures were taken at a small group photo-shoot in San Jose, CA [3/2015]. I met a few new photographers this time, 1 of which might actually lead to paid modeling work. Go figure.. do what you love and get paid to do it..
Worn to KrakenCon 2015. Where I immediately fell in love with 10nant Cosplay. Because he has a life-size Tardis prop, and looks remarkably like the cheeky Doctor. Also worn to Heroes and Villains Fan Fest2016.
Photos by Colm, Toshi, Sandy, OscarC, Eric V, BlizzardTerrak, and others.
